Frequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies for the EV Chargepoint Grant?
Eligibility depends on the type of property and applicant. The grant is currently available to eligible renters, flat owners, residential landlords and certain other applicants, provided the relevant eligibility requirements are met. For renters and flat owners, the property must normally have a private, off-street parking space and the applicant must own or use an eligible electric vehicle.
Do homeowners qualify?
Homeowners who live in a house they own do not normally qualify for the standard flats and renters EV Chargepoint Grant. However, owners of flats can qualify, and there are separate schemes available in certain circumstances, including households with on-street parking.
Do I need off-street parking?
For the flats and renters grant, you must have a private, clearly defined off-street parking space that you own or have the legal right to use and that is accessible to you. Your installer will also need to confirm that the vehicle can be charged safely in the space.
Can landlords apply?
Yes. Residential landlords can apply for help towards installing EV chargepoints at eligible rental properties. The current grant can cover 75% of the cost of purchasing and installing a chargepoint, up to £500 per socket, with grants available for up to 200 sockets per year, subject to the scheme rules.
Can businesses apply?
Yes. Eligible businesses and workplaces may be able to apply through the Workplace Charging Scheme, which currently provides support of up to £500 per socket, for up to 40 sockets across an applicant’s sites. Eligibility and installation requirements apply.
How do I claim the grant?
The process depends on the grant scheme. For residential grants, you should first contact an OZEV-approved installer, agree the proposed work and choose an eligible chargepoint. The customer then completes the relevant online application. Once eligibility has been confirmed, the installer completes the installation and submits the required claim information.
Can Leaf Eco Electrical help with the process?
Yes. Our team can help you understand which EV charging option may be suitable for your property and guide you through the installation process. Where an OZEV grant may be available, we can also help you understand the eligibility requirements and the information needed for your application. Eligibility and approval are ultimately determined by the relevant government grant scheme.
